Updates on Madrid bombing.

Jesus Gil reports on the 190 killed and over 1,000 injured in the latest act of war perpetrated on the free world, this time in Madrid, Spain. (*) (†) (‡)

This bombing is not the small-time bombing of the ETA, the Basque terrorist group. This huge, coordinated attack against innocent people on their regular morning commute has the hallmarks of radical Islamist terrorism. It doesn’t truly matter whether it is Al Qaeda or some other radical Islamist terrorist group.

I think most Spaniards would disagree with you on this conclusion. ETA has been escalating it’s violence for years and over the past couple of months has been attempting again and again (only to be foiled by the Spanish police and military) to attack the capital city. If you look more closely at ETA’s history you will see a movement from military resistance, to targeted attacks on political figures, all leading increasingly to civilian targets. To most Spaniards this has all of the hallmarks of ETA including it’s proximity to the national election which will be held this Sunday.

It now appears that it was Al Qaeda.
