Unorthodox football coach.
He’s relaxed. His team doesn’t hit in practice. His team barely practices at all. His team doesn’t have any meetings. He’s about to become the winningest college football coach ever. He’s Coach John Gagliardi of St John’s University in Minnesota. (*)
So how does he do it? Are his players just so rested compared to the other team that they can win on the basis of having more energy? I don’t get it, but I like it.
Update: 10 December 2003. He is now the winningest college football coach ever. As it turns out, they do practice, but in a different way from most football teams. Instead of conditioning, Coach Gagliardi has his team practice plays over and over. This leads to good execution. (†) That’s an interesting innovation. I wonder if it’s applicable to pro teams.
