Wawro on a historical parallel.

IraqGeoffrey Wawro of the US Naval War College has a fascinating piece in the National Review. (*) Wawro notes the similarities of the Iraq war to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71. Wawro gives the allies high marks, but would have them moving faster to erect an indigenous Iraqi political alternative to the Saddam regime.

There are different forms that such an alternative could take. I suggested one earlier. (†)

Update: 4 April 2003: There are now signs that a transitional political structure composed of Iraqis will be put in place soon, perhaps by next week. (‡)
